A lot of people sometimes ask why they need a grout sealer. There are people that have had tile and grout for a long time and have never sealed their grout. It is not because they don’t know how to seal grout, but they don’t know why using a grout sealer is still important.

The reason why a grout sealer is so important is because it will protect your grout and make it so that you don’t have to do as much cleaning. One of its major benefits is that you won’t have to do much cleaning. If your grout is sealed, you may only have to clean it three times a month in order to keep it looking clean. Once you seal your grout with a good quality grout sealer, you can go for a long time without having to come back and clean your grout. Not only that, but using two or three applications of a grout sealer at a time can help make the surface of the grout a lot waterproof.  Once the grout is waterproof, it will not be as likely to absorb stains, and to be destroyed by moisture.

If you have never learned how to seal grout, then you will find this information really important:

First of all, clean the surface of your grout. Try and get rid of any grout stains that you already have. Then, allow your grout to dry. Once it dries, then you’re going to want to apply the grout sealer. The easiest way to do this is with a roller applicator, that works the same way as a paint brush roller, only it is much thinner, and so it is specifically designed for covering the grout lines. What you want to do is you want to make sure to get a lot of sealer on the grout. The sealer will be absorbed to the porous surface of the grout, so you may need to do two applications in order to get the full coverage. After going over the grout with the grout sealer, you are probably good for the next 6 to 8 months.

If your grout starts to get dirty before that, then you may want to clean it and apply another application of grout sealer to it.  Most grout sealers last anywhere from four months to a year, depending on the quality of the grout sealer that you are buying, and how many coats of it you apply to the surface of your grout. Usually, we recommend that you get a larger container of grout sealer, because eventually you will use all anyway for sealing your grout.

Did you know that there are thousands of people every year that search for “how to apply grout sealer” online? Well, this article outlines the application process in several easy steps.

The first step for how to apply grout sealer is to prepare the grout. If it is new installation, you want to take a hard scrubber and quickly run it over the grout lines to make sure that they are clean, and then wipe them out with a rack. If it is older grout, you’re going to want to make sure that the grout lines are completely clean before you apply your grout sealer. Another option, is to use a grout colorant so that you can also color over the grout while you seal it.  However, my opinion is that you should try and get it as clean as possible anyway before you apply the grout color.

When you’re learning how to apply grout sealer, one of the easiest types of tile and grout sealer  that you can use are water-based grout sealers. There are several grout sealers that we recommend on this site. One of the strongest is Dupont, but we also recommend Aqua Mix as a water-based grout sealant.

As soon as the grout has had a chance to dry, then it is the perfect time for you to apply your tile and grout sealer. What you’re going to want to do is put the grout sealant into a smaller bottle that either has a brush nozzle tip on the end, or has a brush rolling tip on the end. Then, if you use a roller, you’re going to just roll the bottle with the sealer back and forth across the tile grout, until you have completely covered all of the grout with the grout sealer. Make sure that you get plenty of sealant on the surface. You may need to do two layers of application just because grout is very porous, and a lot of times, the first layer isn’t going to be quite enough to cover and seal all of the grout. By doing a second layer, you can ensure that the grout gets 100% sealed.

Having sealed grout will make the grout a lot more waterproof. In addition, it will also help to keep the bacteria and germs out of the grout lines. If you want to not have to clean your grout as often, the best way to do this is to use a grout sealer.

Sealed Grout

If you want your grout to stay clean and last for a long time, the best way you can do this is to have your grout sealed. If you have never sealed your grout before, then it is a good idea to learn how to do it. The first step in learning how to seal grout, is to make sure that your grout lines are very clean. If you have recently installed your grout, you will still want to go over the grout lines with a coarse brush, or sponge. Try and make the lines as smooth as possible because this will make it easier for you to use your grout sealer.

After you have wiped all of the grout lines out, wait for them to dry. Once they are dry, you’ll be ready to use a grout sealer to seal them. I recommend that you use a bottle roller to seal your grout, because it’ll be the easiest way for you to do it. You can also try using a bottle brush. Either way, you want to fill the bottle with the grout sealer, and then apply it from the bottle to your grout. Even though there are a lot of different types of grout sealers that you can use, most tile cleaning experts suggest that the easiest type of grout sealer you can use as a water-based grout sealer. If you use a grout sealer that is solvent -based, you’re going to end up spending a lot of time trying to get it to absorb into the grout. Installing a water-based grout sealer is simple, just roll it on and wait for it to dry. It doesn’t get much easier, and on top of that, water-based grout sealers are also inexpensive. Make sure that you get a good brand like Aqua Mix.  You can get pretty good deals online. Don’t buy the cheapest grout sealer that they have for sell at Home Depot, because more than likely you won’t be very satisfied with the results.

Make sure that you evenly cover all of your grout lines. In addition, you want to make sure that you apply a liberal amount of grout sealer to all of your grout lines. Make sure that the surface of the grout stays wet for at least 10 to 12 minutes while you are applying the sealant.  Grout sealers are fairly easy to use and apply. Some people think that it takes a long time, but if you compare it to the amount of time that you would otherwise have to spend cleaning your grout and tile, it is not really that long at all.  If you do a good job sealing your grout, you won’t have to clean your grout lines for another 6 to 8 months!

When you clean grout, you need to make sure to get rid of all of your grout stains. The best way to go about cleaning it is to spray your walls (or floors) down with your grout cleaner.  You want to make sure to allow the grout cleaner at least 15 minutes to soak in. When it soaks in, then you’ll have a better chance of getting rid of the dirt and grime that can be growing on your grout.

After about 15 minutes, you want to use a grout brush to scrub the grout lines and get rid of the discoloration. Sure, you can try to use a sponge or a rag, but a grout brush is going to enable you to penetrate deeper and get the grout clean with less work. You can also try using a steam cleaner. A steam cleaner will allow you to clean without having to do as much scrubbing.

The best grout cleaners to use are those that are nonabrasive. If you try to clean your grout with straight bleach, you are going to do more damage than good. When you use bleach for cleaning, make sure not to use more than a 1 to 10 ratio of bleach to water. Similarly, there are a lot of other cleaners that are pretty strong. Usually, if you can use a cleaner that contains a small amount of bleach, or oxygen bleach, you’re going to have the best results. This is the reason why Kaboom works so well as a grout cleaner. Kaboom is one of the best grout cleaners, because it contains a small amount of oxidizing bleach. It has a cleaning power that you need to deal with tough grout stains, but it doesn’t have too much of it. Once you are completely done cleaning your tile and grout, you’re going to have to choose a good quality grout sealer. The best types of grout sealers that you can use in my opinion, are water-based grout sealers. Don’t buy the cheapest brand, but buy one or two levels up, so you can have a grout sealer that actually works and does what it’s supposed to. Plan on resealing your grout every six months in order to keep from having to clean it as often.
